Summary:
... In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. God is not a man: God is a Spirit. A spirit hath not flesh and bones. It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing.
...The prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. But, God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, Jesus Christ. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (of his own will begat he us with the word of truth).
...Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law (for, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them), being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith (and the law is not of faith).
...He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
...For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual: Reasoning out of the scriptures. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God. Add thou not unto his words (nor speak thine own words), lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
...If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulful the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
...Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

THE PROMISE
(1) By myself have I sworn, saith
the Lord, for because thou (Abram) hast done this thing (was ready
to sacrifice his son, in obedience to God), and hast not withheld
thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and
in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven,
and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall
possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the
nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice,
Gen2216-18.
THE BLESSING
(2) For if Abraham were justified
by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what
saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted
unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward
not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not,
but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is
counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness
of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose
sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not
impute sin. Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision
(Jews) only, or upon the uncircumcision (Gentiles) also? for we
say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness, Rom0402-09.
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness
of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might
be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised;
that righteousness might be imputed unto them also, Rom0411.
THE LAW
(3) Now to Abraham and his seed
were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many;
but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I (Paul)
say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ,
the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after (from Abraham
to Moses), cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of
none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more
of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then
serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till
the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was
ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator is
not a mediator of one, but God is one, Gal0316-20.
(4) Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, 1Pe0321) have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise, Gal0321-29.
DIVINE SERVICE
(5) Now I say, That the heir, as
long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though
he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the
time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children,
were in bondage under the elements of the world (divine service,
the offering of gifts and sacrifices for sins, which stood only
in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances,
or, rites, or, ceremonies, imposed on them until the time of reformation,
Heb0901,09,10+m): But when the fulness of the time was come, God
sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem
them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption
of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit
of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou
art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of
God through Christ, Gal0401-07.
RENEWAL
(6) Jesus said, Verily, verily,
I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of
the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind
bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof,
but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so
is every one that is born of the Spirit, Jhn0305-08.
SONS OF GOD
(7) He was in the world, and the
world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto
his own (the lost sheep of the house of Israel, Mat1524), and
his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them
gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of
the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (of his own will
begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of
firstfruits of his creatures, Jas0118). And the Word was made
flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory
as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth,
Jhn0110-14.
(8) The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, Jhn0117.
THE NEW COVENANT
(9) For if that first covenant had
been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the
second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days
come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to
the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I
took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because
they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith
the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house
of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws
into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be
to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall
not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother,
saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to
the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness,
and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In
that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now
that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away, Heb0807-13.
(10) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth, Rom1004.
THINGS OF
THE SPIRIT
(11) There is therefore now no condemnation
to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what
the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin,
condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law
might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after
the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things
of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of
the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against
God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can
be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But
ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the
Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit
of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body
is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell
in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken
your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore,
brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the
flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye
through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall
live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the
sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again
to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby
we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our
spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then
heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that
we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together, Rom0801-17.
RELUCTANCE
(12) If that which is done away
was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. Seeing
then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children
of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is
abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth
the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament;
which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when
Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when
it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away, 2Co0311-16.
BY ONE OFFERING
(13) For by one offering (when he
offered up himself, Heb0727: to make reconciliation for the sins
of the people Heb0217: Almost all things are by the law purged
with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission, Heb0922,23)
he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the
Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said
before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after
those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts,
and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities
will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there
is no more offering for sin, Heb1014-17.
THE GENTILES
(14) Christ hath redeemed us from
the curse of the law (for it is written, Cursed is every one that
continueth not in all things which are written in the book of
the law to do them, Gal0310), being made a curse for us: for it
is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the
blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith
(and the law is not of faith, Gal0312), Gal0313,14.
THE SPIRIT
OF GOD
(15) But we speak the wisdom of
God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before
the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world
knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the
Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear
heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed
them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things,
yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of
a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things
of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received,
not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that
we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which
things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth,
but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things
with spiritual (reasoning out of the scriptures, Act1702). But
the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:
for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because
they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth
all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known
the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the
mind of Christ, 1Co0207-16.
LAST OF
THE PROPHETS
(16) The prophecy came not in old
time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost, 2Pe0121. But, God, who at sundry times
and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the
prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, Heb0101,02.
(17) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation, 2Pe0119-20.
(18) He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him, Jhn0331-34.
THE COMFORTER
(19) Jesus said, He that loveth
me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not
mine, but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken
unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which
is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you, Jhn1424-26.
THE SPIRIT
OF TRUTH
(20) It is expedient for you that
I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto
you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is
come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness,
and o judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness,
because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment,
because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things
to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he,
the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear,
that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall
glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto
you, Jhn1607-14.
(21) If ye love me, keep my commandments (Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets, Mat2237-40). And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him, Jhn1415-21.
TEACH YOU
ALL THINGS
(22) The anointing which ye have
received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach
you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and
is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall
abide in him, 1Jn0227.
(23) And
this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of
his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment
(And his commandments are not grievous, 1Jn0503). And he that
keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby
we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given
us, 1Jn0323,24. Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out
my spirit unto you, I
will make known my words unto you, Pro0123.
LIBERTY
(24) Now we, brethren, as Isaac
was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born
after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit,
even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast
out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall
not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren,
we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. Stand fast
therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and
be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul
say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you
nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised,
that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no
effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye
are fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit wait for the
hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision
availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh
by love, Gal0428-0506. For unto you it is given in the behalf
of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for
his sake, Phl0129.
THE WORD
(25) How long, ye simple ones, will
ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning,
and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will
pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you,
Pro0122,23.
(26) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made, Jhn0101-03. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, Jhn0114.
(27) God is not a man, Num2319: God is a Spirit, Jhn0424. A spirit hath not flesh and bones Luk2439. It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life, Jhn0663. Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live, Deu0803.
(28) As bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth, Isa5510,11. Add thou not unto his words (nor speak thine own words, Isa5813), lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar, Pro3006. Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath, Mrk0424,25. He that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord. Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Jer2328,29. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men, Mat1509.
TRY THE SPIRITS
(29) Beloved, believe not every
spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many
false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the
Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ
is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth
not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and
this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that
it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are
of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater
is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of
the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth
them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is
not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth,
and the spirit of error, 1Jn0401-06.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
(30) Peter and the other apostles
answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men, Act0529.
(31) Thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe, 1Th0213.
DISTRIBUTION
OF THE SPIRIT
(32) But the hour cometh, and now
is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit
and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God
is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit
and in truth, Jhn0423,24.
(33) Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God, Act1034-46.
(34) This only would I (Paul) learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham, Gal0302-09.
(35) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people, Rom1017,21.
(36) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? Rom1014-16.
(37) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Rom0831,32.
(38) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luk1113. Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulful the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law, Gal0516-18.
(39) And it shall come to pass afterward (Christ being raised from the dead, Rom0609), that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood (became as blood, Rev0612), before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call, Jol0228-32.
(40) Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit, 1Jn0413.
THE SECOND
MAN
(41) So it is written, The first
man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening
spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that
which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first
man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is
the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we
have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image
of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood
cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit
incorruption, 1Co1545-50. For in the resurrection they neither
marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God
(who maketh his angels spirits, Heb0107) in heaven, Mat2230.
THE ADOPTION
(42) According as he hath chosen
us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be
holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated
us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according
to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of
his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In
whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded
toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us
the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which
he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness
of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ,
both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated
according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the
counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his
glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that
holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise
of his glory, Eph0104-14.
UNITY OF THE
SPIRIT
(42) I (Paul) therefore, the prisoner
of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith
ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering,
forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity
of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one
Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One
Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is
above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one
of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ,
Eph0401-07.
(43) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit, 1Co1207-13.
(44) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love, Eph0414-16.
(45) Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit, Eph0219-21.
