(9) As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they (traditionalists, Mrk0709) constrain you to be circumcised (to seek righteousness not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law, Rom0932); only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ (the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, 1Co0118). For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh (outward shew, Luk1720m). But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me (Paul), and I unto the world. (10) Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. (15) And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision (Justification by the deeds of the law of Moses, cf.Rom0320), why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased, Gal0511. (16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulful the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (20) Take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend, 1Co0809-13.
